ProSport LMP on the Nordschleife

Here's a little treat. Ron Simons takes the RSR Nürburg ProSport Spyder LMP car out on the Nürburgring Nordschleife. With a Cosworth V6, around 350bhp and slicks, it's not slow. I'm in the passenger seat giving the thumbs up now and again just to confirm I'm not about to puke.

GTR. 7m29s. The Video.

There's been an awful lot of controversy over Nissan's laptime claim for the GTR. I for one have had to sit and listen to a couple of different Nürburgring pros explain at length why the time simply isn't possible for a road car. They say the Porsche GT3 and GT2 is a true measure of a road-legal sports car and the GTR simply can't beat it on street tyres because it's too heavy. They say this car must have slicks and racing brakes.

The video inside should quell 90% of doubts. It shows some of the most comfortably aggressive driving I've ever seen. Seeing this level of attack is always impressive, but on the Nordschleife? Amazing.

Eifel Rennen pictures

Nothing too fancy here, just a collection of pictures I took this morning from the Kleine Karussell. The parade lap was exactly that, a parade. One or two drivers were trying to make space and attack corners, but most of them didn't have a clue which corner came next. The number of nigh-on priceless cars that were scraped along the ridge of the Karussell was frightening. The drivers had no idea that you either go IN or stay OUT... ouch.

We love computers here at the RSR Nürburg race school. And I don’t just mean the kind that send and receive emails or allow us to look at interesting pictures of exotic women. No. I mean the computers that come in cars. The computers that can eliminate wheelspin, correct slides and generally keep our lovely vehicles out of the Nordschleife’s formidably expensive barriers...

Scattered over these rolling Eifel hills are buildings and compounds housing the latest sports models from twenty five different manufacturers. And from April 'til September of each year the tiny village of Nürburg blossoms into a multi-cultural petrolhead heaven...
